I know someone whose name is Julie. She recently went through her fifth divorce; she is not 31 years of age.

The longest marriage she had lasted two and a half years and her shortest was seven months. It would only tell me that there are “issues” involved that makes it impossible for her to maintain a relationship, but this is not the reason that puzzles me the most.

What I’m confused about is that Julie and so many other people that I know, is their ability to hop from one partner to another with no difficulties. People seem to fall in and out of love so easily that I doubt if they were really ever truly “In Love” in the first place.

Although I am not aware on all Julie’s marriages, I have known her on the last three marriages that she had. Each marriage happened within six months of first meeting. Infidelity ended each of the marriage on her part.

Marriage #3 – Julie cheated on her husband and got caught. She was given a second chance, but when she became involved in a second affair, her husband sent her packing.

Marriage #4 – Julie’s husband cheated on her with her best friend so, in retaliation, Julie cheated too, with the best friend’s husband. They literally ended up trading partners!

Marriage #5 – Julie’s husband, acquired through the shenanigans of marriage #4, cheated on her with his original wife, the ex-best friend. He left Julie to return to her.

A month after his departure, Julie was already excited to be “in love” again. After three months, they are already living together and are planning of their wedding even if divorce #5 is not yet done!

Can people really do that? I myself was divorced from my husband for almost 13 years and I haven’t fallen in love again. I am still hoping though but it hasn’t happened yet. Maybe because I am too picky.

Why do we sometimes put little thought into our next partner nowadays? Is it because we can’t stand to be alone? Julie can’t and she also admits it. What she does is she easily goes from relationship to relationship without knowing the person before she gets married.

Does this mean that Julie is in love all the time? I don’t think so. Although she argue that she is, I believe that she is just high on that “new love” feeling and tend to forget future problems until it’s too late. When the new wears off and the dust settles, Julie will realize that her new marriage is not that perfect.

The sad story on Julie’s Multiple Marriages is that a child was born on marriage #3. Shaun, a little boy is now confused and angry at the age of 9. He tried his best to adjust to his new step dad (marriage #4). He almost like the man but unluckily, the relationship fell apart. He was upset.

After that incident, Shaun rebelled against every relationship that came through his door. His mother brushed off all of Shaun’s protests saying “He’ll get over it – he’s just a kid”. But Shaun hasn’t gotten over it. With the coming of the “would-be husband” #6, Shaun asked to leave to be with his father.

Even though the move has produced some stability in his little life, the anger remains. Shaun continuously fights with his dad, is always in trouble at school and although he loves his mom, he will tell everyone that he is “mad at her”.

This is really sad upon knowing that a little boy was a victim of infidelity. Adults sometimes forget that kids are resilient. They also adjust. They bounce back some do but many don’t at least not without any help. These kids are very much affected by the behavior of their parents. They suffer from the same anxieties, fears and insecurities that adults do.

If it is true that we set example to them, what hope does Shaun have of having a successful relationship with a woman in the future? Based on the experience that he encountered from his mother that partners are temporary and dispensable, Will he hop from woman to woman throughout his life?

Or will he follow his father’s example and withdraw from the relationship game altogether for fear of failure?

The future is not promising!
